Daily Devotional: Psalms 54:1-7

Ps 54:1-7

1 Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate me by your might. 2 Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth. 3 Strangers are attacking me; ruthless men seek my life--men without regard for God. Selah 4 Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me. 5 Let evil recoil on those who slander me; in your faithfulness destroy them. 6 I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, O LORD, for it is good. 7 For he has delivered me from all my troubles, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.

John 14:20-21

20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."

We all have good times and we all have bad times. We have times when it seems the whole world is against us and then we enjoy those times when all is going our way. Because of this we have emotional and spiritual highs and lows. Either of these can produce their own special temptations in our lives. When all is going our way, we can become lax and begin to think we are in control. When the world crashes around us and it seems nothing can get any worse, we may be tempted to just give up and quit. We need to trust God in all situations of life.

As a child of God, we have come to know God as we know Jesus. The Father lives in us when the Spirit dwells in our hearts. Jesus is living in us and is a part of our lives as the Spirit lives in us. We can no more understand how this works than we can explain the Triune Godhead. What we can know, is the result of God in us as we have strength to overcome our trials, wisdom to know how to live and the ever changing and growing of our inner person to become more like God.

As we learn more about God and as we draw nearer to Jesus our Savior, the more we fully understand the need to obey him and to walk in his steps. Serving him is a wonderful privilege and never a burden. The more we fully devote ourselves to him, the more joy and peace we know in our hearts and lives. Jesus is Lord!

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your wisdom that is beyond my ability to comprehend. Thank you for your love that is so vast, it cannot be measured and yet, so simple that even a child can understand. Thank you for being constant and dependable and never like the waves of the sea or the everchanging winds. Use me in your service, doing what you want me to do, when you want it and where you want me to be. Thank you for so many fellow Christian friends who are a constant encouragement to me. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
