Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:13-18

Ps 106:13-18

13 But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his counsel. 14 In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wasteland they put God to the test. 15 So he gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease upon them. 16 In the camp they grew envious of Moses and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the LORD. 17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it buried the company of Abiram. 18 Fire blazed among their followers; a flame consumed the wicked.

Luke 17:12-19

12 As he [Jesus] was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15 one of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him-and he was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”  19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

How easily and quickly we forget the goodness of the Lord! So many times we have asked God to take us through some hardship, sickness or other trial but how often when it is over do we give him thanks? This is why Paul tells us to make our requests known to God with thanksgiving. We should be thankful for all that God allows to happen to us as it plays a part in getting us ready for eternity.

Being thankful to God not only gives him the honor he deserves but also opens our minds to greater recognition of our dependence on him. The more we realize that all things come from him, the greater our faith becomes in him. We do not even begin to know all that God is doing for us behind the scenes as we seek to live for him. He is our ever present help, always watching our circumstances and our needs, giving us strength to endure or leading us away from temptation. We will never be too thankful to our God for what he has done and is doing.

O Lord God, thank you for all you do for me every day. Thank you most of all for the salvation you have provided in Jesus my Savior. Help me be more conscious of you and what you are doing in my life and help me always be grateful toward you and to give you thanks in all things. I realize that even the hardships I face are a part of getting me ready to live with you in eternity. I know I am weak at times and often make the wrong choices so I need your continued forgiveness. Help me serve others with my life and what I have been given. In Jesus name.
