Daily Devotional: Psalms 68:20-27

Ps 68:20-27

20 Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death. 21 Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins. 22 The Lord says, “I will bring them from Bashan; I will bring them from the depths of the sea, 23 that you may plunge your feet in the blood of your foes, while the tongues of your dogs have their share.” 24 Your procession has come into view, O God, the procession of my God and King into the sanctuary. 25 In front are the singers, after them the musicians; with them are the maidens playing tambourines. 26 Praise God in the great congregation; praise the LORD in the assembly of Israel. 27 There is the little tribe of Benjamin, leading them, there the great throng of Judah's princes, and there the princes of Zebulun and of Naphtali.

1 Cor. 1:27-29

27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him.

God takes the smallest of things and makes them into something great. From a handful of dust, he made man and then from the rib of that man, he formed the first woman. He used one righteous man to save the human race from the flood that destroyed the world. It was from an old and childless couple that he gave us the nation of Israel. And it was from a lowly birth in a barn that a child was born to a virgin and became the savior of the world.

God does not need to use the wise, the wealthy, the powerful or the influential of this world to accomplish his will. In fact, he more often than not has used that which is viewed as nothing in the eyes of the world to accomplish what seemed impossible to those involved. The cross of Jesus seems as foolishness to many but his death gives life to all who will come to him. God’s way of salvation shown to us in his gospel demonstrates his power and wisdom but it is rejected by many who think their ways are better. Our God is great and awesome indeed!

Lord God, I just want to thank you for your great love and your wisdom that is beyond my ability to comprehend but provides me salvation in Jesus Christ. Give me a greater determination to live your will in my life. Help me love your truth, to study your word more and wisdom to apply it properly. Fill me with your love so it shows to all around me. Help me be selfless, compassionate and forgiving. I ask a blessing of strength and healing for several who are sick, taking treatments and recovering from surgeries. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Savior.
