Daily Devotional: Psalms 20:6-9

Ps 20:6-9

6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. 8 They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. 9 O LORD, save the king! Answer us when we call!

1 Peter 2:9-10

9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

We are the people of God – a people chosen to be holy in a wicked world. We are his royal priesthood. We serve God with spiritual worship in a way that brings glory to him in all we do. In our minds we associate priests and the priesthood with special worship services in a church building. It is certainly true that we worship God when we gather in a building for that purpose. However, this is only a small part of the true worship we offer to God. Every day of our lives we glorify him and worship him as we live for him.

Whatever our relationship, whether husband, wife, parent, child, brother, sister, neighbor, fellow worker or fellow student (and the list goes on), when we mold our lives after his will we are bringing honor to him. When we aid a stranger in need, we have honored God. When we demonstrate love toward others or show compassion instead of being judgmental, we are showing honor to God.

As the children of God, as his holy nation, we bring praise to him when we trust him with the problems in our lives. We are not to depend on people or the things of this world to satisfy our needs or solve our problems. We trust in the name of the Lord our God; we trust in the name of Jesus our savior because we know he will always hear our cry and fill our needs.

O Lord, my Lord and God, I thank you for your love for me. Thank you for hearing my cry in time of distress. Thank you for all the things you have provided in my life and continue to provide every day. It is such a wonderful blessing to be a part of your family and to have the many brothers and sisters who share in my life and help me in so many ways. Thank you for the joy of the friendship and fellowship with others who love you and are seeking to serve you. Help me feel and know and then show the joy of Jesus in my life so others will want to serve you too. Use me in your will and your way. I pray in the name of Jesus.
