Psalms 107:23-32

23 Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters. 24 They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep. 25 For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves. 26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away. 27 They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wits' end. 28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. 29 He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. 30 They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. 31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. 32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.

It seems to me that there are some jobs that would be impossible to do and not believe in God. While I know that all are without excuse because we can see his creation and his handiwork, doing some jobs every day would really make us aware of God. One of these is being a sailor. I know of no place where one can see the power of God, his many wonderful works and be totally at his mercy every moment more than being on the open seas.

The mighty waves are at his command and no man can control them. The many sea creatures live supporting each other in their own food chains while actually at times helping each other to exist or live better. Where else can one go and see no boundaries or enclosures to hamper the wild? I have heard of stories where dolphins traveled alongside a ship for hundreds of miles and yet they are free to go and do as they please.

In all this we see the awesome power of God that is far beyond what any man can tame or control. We know of the vast depths of the seas but have never been able to see them all. Even this summer scientist discovered a “new” sea creature that had never been known before. As the marine biologists study the creatures of the sea they discover each is unique and has its own special place in the world. This repeatedly demonstrates the undeniable intelligent design of the universe.

O God, thank you for all your creation. I acknowledge you as the only God, the God of our universe and all others that exists. I praise you as I see your mighty works and your awesome power in the world all around me. Thank you for the beauty of the sea, the colors of the trees in the woods, the majesty of the mountains and the wonders in the skies. Thank you most of all for loving me and providing a way that I can live with you in eternity. Use me to help others while I am here on earth. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord and my King.
