Ps 119:137-144 Tsadhe
137 Righteous are you, O LORD, and your laws are right. 138 The statutes you have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy. 139 My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore your words. 140 Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them. 141 Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts. 142 Your righteousness is everlasting
and your law is true. 143 Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands are my delight. 144 Your statutes are forever right; give me understanding that I may live.
The word of God is the expression of the will and the nature of God written for us to understand and live by. Twice in this reading it is called “right” and then it is called “true” and “trustworthy.” Some things are as they are and we decide to conform to them and live by them or we pay the consequences. God in his wisdom is absolute and therefore his laws are absolute. His nature does not change and therefore the revelation of that nature does not change.
In our society we face rules and laws that are there but are not right. In the case of God, not only are all things fixed but they are right, trustworthy and true. God made us and he knows what is best for us. He knows both the past of all mankind as well as the future. He understands every problem we face and he has the solution for us. He knows every heartache and he sees every tear and he offers the comfort that can carry us through. God knows what is best for us.
Do we believe this? We claim to live our lives based on our faith in God and in his word so we must answer that we believe. So if we believe this, then why do we not humbly submit to his word in all things? Why do we make excuses and work so hard to rationalize and ignore things that God has spoken so clearly? Why do we spend our day fretting, worrying and filled with anxiety?
We may not like it and we may not know how it can possibly work but if it is God’s plan, it will never fail. Life is not about the few years we spend here on this earth. Life is about using these few years preparing for eternity. This life is short and uncertain but the next is eternal. This life is filled with cares, sorrows and pain but the true life is living in the glory of God in his presence forever.
O God, open my eyes to see heaven. Give me a greater understanding of you and your glory and what it means to see you, your Son, your Spirit and all of the heavenly hosts. Help me transform my thinking so I can see myself there with you in all your wonder, your glory and your majesty so I will completely submit to your will. Help me submit to you and your will because I trust you and to obey you because I love you. Thank you for your love for me. I pray in Jesus name. Robert
