Ps 119:113-120 Samekh
113 I hate double-minded men, but I love your law. 114 You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. 115 Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God! 116 Sustain me according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed. 117 Uphold me, and I will be delivered; I will always have regard for your decrees. 118 You reject all who stray from your decrees, for their deceitfulness is in vain. 119 All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross; therefore I love your statutes. 120 My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws.
There may be no greater contrast than the double-minded man and the word of God. We live in a society that is filled with greed where truthfulness is scarce unless used to the advantage of the person speaking. We have come to accept the fact that most people do not always tell the truth. We hear a coach has said he will not leave his school and next week he is gone. We hear a person say they will not run for office and two day later they announce they are in the race. How far down from celebrity status does this run? Are we always truthful?
God cannot lie. When he speaks, it is done. We may not see it because we are hampered by time and space but it is done. In his infinite world his word is supreme and all the heavenly hosts know that what he says comes to past.
We may deny it or we may disbelieve it but that does not change the veracity of it. It is not unusual to turn on a television or computer and see someone ridiculing the idea of God or absolute morals or the concept of sin but this does not change these things nor does it make them go away. Putting our head in the sand does not change the reality around us; when God speaks, it is always truth.
Not only is his word truth when it comes to sin, judgment and punishment but it is also truth when he makes promises to take care of his own and provide for us and our needs. His word is truth when he tells us we will never be allowed to face more than we can bear and with every trial he provides a way for us. When he tells us to not worry because he will take care of us, his word is truth. When he promises a home in heaven in his presence for those who faithfully serve him, his word is truth. When we are unfaithful, he remains faithful; he cannot lie.
O God, give me an honest heart like yours so that I am not deceived and so my word is always truthful. Give me wisdom to accept your word as truth, even when it tells me I am wrong. Give me strength to change my life to conform to your will instead of doing my own. Forgive me when I fail. Use me to encourage others to do your will. Give strength and comfort to those who are suffering and healing to those who are sick. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Savior. Robert
