Psalms 119:105-112

Ps 119:105-112 Nun
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. 106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. 107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word. 108 Accept, O LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. 109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. 110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. 111 Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. 112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.

I am not sure about your life and how it works but I have figured out some things about mine. I determine to follow the word of God and use it as the light to guide my way and then just when I think I am doing well; I find myself doing or saying something that I know I should not have done or said. The Psalmist had taken an oath and confirmed it to follow the word of God. When we become Christians we commit to Jesus as our Lord. That means we have promised that we will follow him and allow him to tell us what to do and how to live our lives. Among others things, our baptism is a confirmation of our promise to serve Jesus.

As we continue to read this text we see how the Psalmist continues to grow in his knowledge and his life for God. We must continue to do the same. We make a new commitment every day and sometimes more than once each day. This is described by John as “walking in the light” and with it comes the continued forgiveness provided by the blood of Jesus. Paul said he pressed on toward the goal but had not yet arrived. So it is with us, we keep our eyes focused on Jesus and on the things above as we live each day.

I talked with a high school wrestler who had a match with a blind student from another school. He said that was the most difficult match he had ever fought because from the beginning the other guy kept one hand touching him at all times. By the way, the boy who kept his hand in touch won. When we keep in constant touch with our Master, we will never be defeated. There is nothing in creation that can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ our Lord!

O God, I thank you for the many blessings with which you fill my life every day. I thank you for the rest at night, the sunshine and the rain. I thank you for the food I eat and the home in which I live. I thank you for my family, both my physical family and my spiritual family. I thank you most of all for your infinite wisdom which allows me to be forgiven. I thank you for your love and ask you to fill my heart with that same love for those around me. Use me to do your will and to help others live for you. I pray in the name of Jesus, my friend and my Lord. Robert
