Psalms 7:10-17

10 My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart. 11 God is a righteous judge, a God who expresses his wrath every day. 12 If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. 13 He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows. 14 He who is pregnant with evil and conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment. 15 He who digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit he has made. 16 The trouble he causes recoils on himself; his violence comes down on his own head. 17 I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

As I often write about God and his righteousness, his justice, his glory and his majesty, I am overwhelmed with a sense of awe. I am made to realize that on my very best day I cannot begin to fathom God. He is the LORD Most High and is above all things we can see and know. This is the God who created all that exists and is still in complete control. This is the God who punishes those who reject him and rewards those who seek him. He speaks and nations vanish. At his will floods come and rivers are made wasteland. He alone is God and over all things.

We say that we can understand his infinite power (at least to some degree it fits our minds). It is plausible to believe that there is an infinite, intelligent being who created all things. What does not fit our minds is how this all powerful God can actually care about each of us as individuals and how he can know our problems and see our concerns. From our minor frustrations (and how we react to them) to the most life altering circumstances (and how we react to them) God knows what we face.

Jesus tells us to pray but also tells us that the Father knows what we need even before we ask. In his great love he knows our every emotion and feeling. He not only knows but understands and cares. He is filled with compassion and mercy for each one of us today and wants to help us get thru the trials we are facing. He wants to give us strength and comfort. He wants to give us complete assurance. But we must trust him. When we trust him with our all, he will carefully take us thru each day and make us more like him. Now this is real love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and gave his Son as a substitute sacrifice for our sin.

I thank you God for your love for me. I know that you only want to make me more like you so I ask you to forgive me for getting in the way. Give me a yielding spirit so your Spirit can control my heart and my life. Use me as your servant to bring joy and encouragement to others around me. Open my mind so I can know you better. I pray in Jesus’ name.
