Psalms 2:1

Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed one. 3 "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters." 4 The one enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. 5 Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6 "I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill."

Would you dare to fight against God? For any believer the very idea of fighting against God is ridiculous. We all know that God is all powerful and that any attempt to confront him would be in vain. Yet, we are told that we become his enemy when we fail to submit to him and live for him. We know that God is in control of the nations; that he alone can put rulers in and remove them from their positions. He alone can make a nation strong and make it vanish from existence. But do we put this same principle to work in our personal lives and know that God is in control?
This knowledge comes with two consequences. The first is that we can never fight against God and win. If we choose to rebel against him we will be defeated. The result of this compels us to want to live for him, to please him and to become more like him each day.

The second consequence is that when we submit to him and live for him he will always be with us. The same God who installs governments can make our lives successful. He can provide us with all our needs and make us what he desires. We can face each day with the assurance that God is with us and his protecting hand is over us. Whatever we may face today, God is in control. He will not allow us to be tempted more than we are able to bear and he will use our experience to make us stronger in our faith and make us more like him in our character.

What a blessing to know that we can face the problems of this day with the assurance that God will be with us and give us the strength to overcome. It may be taking care of a loved one, it may be managing a business deal, it may be a normal day with the kids or it may be a crisis of immense magnitude but God is still in control and will give us the victory in Jesus.

O God, strong and mighty, I ask you today to empower me to be more like you in my heart and my attitude. Give me the peace that only comes from trusting in you. I pray that you will be with those who are sick and hurting, with those who are facing great difficulties and bless them with your presence. Help me to take the time today to show compassion to someone who is struggling and to be an encouragement to them. Give me wisdom to use the opportunities you give to share your word and your grace with those who are seeking you. Forgive me when I fail. I pray in Jesus’ name.
