13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. 14 The LORD upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. 15 The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. 16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.
Matthew 6:26
26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
The Lord is faithful. This is a true statement that can serve as a two edged sword. God is faithful to the blessings he has promised and is equally faithful to the woes he has promised. When God has spoken, we can know it is truth. It is not just true or a true statement but it is absolute truth and all that this concept embodies. This means that God cannot lie. It means that God does not and will not try to deceive us by what we call double talk. We can just take his word and always know that it is dependable. He is not going to change his mind after he has spoken. As with his love, faithfulness is a part of his nature.
When we couple his love and his faithfulness, Jesus says we have no reason to worry about what is going to happen or not happen. God has promised that if we love him and serve him, he will take care of us and provide all that we need. Since it is he who made us and it is he who created all things, he knows what we need (even before we ask) and he has the ability to provide all things. The only thing standing between my total peace of mind and complete assurance that all will work for good in my life is my willingness to believe and truly trust God. Trust is an easy concept to grasp and just as easy to admonish to others. The problem with trust is actually doing it when things are not as we think they should be or when we face some great uncertainty in our lives. But why this resistance to trusting God? Perhaps, because we must allow him to determine our future and order our lives instead of depending on our own wisdom and works. God is faithful.
O God, please help me to trust you more – no, not more – completely. I do know that you are all powerful, all wise, loving, gracious and faithful. I know, and thank you, that you have taken care of me so many times in the past and so I know I have no reason to doubt. Help my unbelief. Use me to do your will. Use me to encourage others and to serve their needs. Help me to be a humble servant to your will in all things. In Jesus’ name I pray.
May God bless each of us as we yield our will to him.
