21 But you, O Sovereign LORD, deal well with me for your name's sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me. 22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. 23 I fade away like an evening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust. 24 My knees give way from fasting; my body is thin and gaunt. 25 I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads. 26 Help me, O LORD my God; save me in accordance with your love. 27 Let them know that it is your hand, that you, O LORD, have done it. 28 They may curse, but you will bless; when they attack they will be put to shame, but your servant will rejoice. 29 My accusers will be clothed with disgrace and wrapped in shame as in a cloak. 30 With my mouth I will greatly extol the LORD; in the great throng I will praise him. 31 For he stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save his life from those who condemn him.
There have been few people who have ever lived that were more mistreated and falsely accused or who suffered unjustly than did the Psalmist, David. While doing all in his power to support King Saul, he was constantly hunted as one would hunt an animal to kill. While attempting to help many they would reject his help and turn against him. If ever there was one who had the right to be bitter and hateful or who had reason to be depressed and quit, it was David. While he suffered from most of these things at one time or another, he always trusted in God. On one occasion he had gone away from home with his personal army to help his friend in battle. When he returned, he found that their homes had been destroyed, their families taken as hostages and all of their personal belongings taken as plunder. Add to all of this the fact that his own supporters began talking about stoning him and you have reason for all of the above emotions and dispositions. Yet the scripture says that “David found strength in the Lord his God.” He then prayed and asked for wisdom from God to do the right thing. When he followed the will of God, he was blessed with a victory over his enemies and regained all that had been lost. We must trust God – no matter what we face or what happens. We must study to know his will and he will give us understanding. We must pray and ask for wisdom and he has promised to give it to us. God is good!
O God, I thank you for your love for me and all that you have done to help me. I thank you for the many friends who lend support to me. I thank you for your forgiveness in Jesus Christ. I thank you for my family who loves me even when I fail. I ask that you give me opportunities to do your will and the wisdom to see them and the strength to use them accordingly. In Jesus name.
May God bless each of us as we place all of our trust in him alone.
