Thoughts on Psalm 36:1-12

An oracle is within my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before his eyes. 2 For in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his sin. 3 The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise and to do good. 4 Even on his bed he plots evil; he commits himself to a sinful course and does not reject what is wrong.
5 Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. 6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O LORD, you preserve both man and beast. 7 How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. 11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. 12 See how the evildoers lie fallen--thrown down, not able to rise!

As we look back over history, we see many from all stations of life that have refused to believe in God while at the same time many who profess a profound faith in his existence and his continued care for mankind. Neither profession is limited by position, education, class, wealth, intellect or any other measurable standard. Yet, in all this, every one of these has continued to enjoy daily the blessings of God in their lives. Without regard to conviction some live long and prosperous lives while others live in poverty and pain and die young. God has given life to all and sends the rain on the just and the unjust alike. So, is there any real benefit in acknowledging God and seeking to serve him?

The answer is a resounding yes! When we are unfaithful, God is still God and is therefore faithful to himself. While we may deny him, he cannot deny himself. While we may ignore him now, in this life, we will face him beyond the grave where we are told that every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Not only will each of us confess him, we will submit to his will in judgment. It is for this reason we trust him now.

Lord God, please be with those who are hurting from the pains of this life. Help them to see you and know the peace and healing that only you can give. Please use me in your service today so that I can help others to know you and the salvation that comes only thru Jesus. Thank you for your love for me and your constant care provided each day. I pray in Jesus name.

May God bless each of us today as we confess him in our lives.
