11 Ruthless witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about. 12 They repay me evil for good and leave my soul forlorn. 13 Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered, 14 I went about mourning as though for my friend or brother. I bowed my head in grief as though weeping for my mother. 15 But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee; attackers gathered against me when I was unaware. They slandered me without ceasing. 16 Like the ungodly they maliciously mocked; they gnashed their teeth at me. 17 O Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my life from their ravages, my precious life from these lions. 18 I will give you thanks in the great assembly; among throngs of people I will praise you.
I once worked in a car dealership where a man had bought a new car and brought it back with problems. After several return trips to the shop, he was unable to get satisfaction. I went with this man into the office of the owner to discuss his problem. The owner had read his file and then listened to his story. After he finished, the dealer asked him what kind of car he had traded and why. He replied what it was and he had traded because of a particular problem that could not be resolved. He then asked what he had traded for that car and why, with the same reason given. After going back three or four cars and all being traded because of problems that could not be resolved, the dealer said he was sorry but the only solution to his current problem would be to trade again, somewhere else. The problem was not in the car, it was in the man’s mind.
In the mind of our five year old grandson, the proper definition of “unfair” is anything that does not make him happy at the moment. This distorted idea is often carried with us thru out our adult lives. We perceive the world and those around us as determined to make our lives miserable while the real problem is in our own minds.
God has not promised that we will live in constant euphoria or that our lives will be a constant party but has promised that he will help us face the real problems in life. We need to be constantly giving thanks to God for his many blessings and focus on his love and care for us. This in itself will help us be able to bear the many burdens we surely will face.
O God, my father, I do thank you for your many blessings in my life. Help me to be realistic about things I face and to trust you to take care of me in everything. Sometimes life is not fair but I know that you will make all things right when this life is over. I praise you in the name of Jesus.
May God bless each of us as we focus on his love today.
