O LORD, the king rejoices in your strength. How great is his joy in the victories you give! 2 You have granted him the desire of his heart and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah
3 You welcomed him with rich blessings and placed a crown of pure gold on his head. 4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him--length of days, for ever and ever. 5 Through the victories you gave, his glory is great; you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty. 6 Surely you have granted him eternal blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence. 7 For the king trusts in the LORD; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken.
This is a Psalm of praise from David, the king of Israel. While we are not serving as kings, queens or as national leaders, we can still emulate the attitude of David. He is known for being a man after God’s own heart. We see that heart expressed in the words of this Psalm. David realized that he was where he was in life because God had put him there. Being the youngest of several brothers, he was considered somewhat insignificant in his family. He was a lowly shepherd with no social standing. Yet, while being chosen by God, thru the prophet to be king of Israel, God said that he looked on the heart and not on outward appearances. We need to know that God can use us where we are. He may leave us in our present position and use us or he may, as with David, move us to another station in life. Either way, he can use us if we are willing to submit to him as did David his servant and king.
He trusted in God when he was a shepherd. There is no real significance to a sheep and especially when among a large flock of sheep. Yet, when a bear came out to get one sheep or when a lion came out to get one, David depended on God to deliver the sheep. We again can learn that whatever it is in our lives that we are dealing with, whether big or small in the overall scheme of things, God sees, he cares and he will deliver us. It was the same God who gave victory over a bear and lion, over Goliath the giant and over armies of the enemy. That same God will give us the victory over what we face today. That same God will lead us if we faithfully submit to him.
O God, please give me a pure heart. Give me a trusting heart and increase my faith so that I can know your peace. Open my eyes so I can see your bountiful blessings and your ever presence. Fill me with your love so that it overflows to others around me. Use me in your will so that you may be glorified in all things. I praise you and thank you for all of the blessings in my life today. Above all else, I thank you for the forgiveness and the fellowship you have extended to me thru your Son. In his name I pray.
May God bless each of us as we humbly submit to his will and lead.
