I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. 2 I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. 3 My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you. 4 For you have upheld my right and my cause; you have sat on your throne, judging righteously. 5 You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever. 6 Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished. 7 The LORD reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. 8 He will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the peoples with justice. 9 The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. 10 Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
Sir Winston Churchill once said that the greatest thing we have to fear is fear itself. Someone else said that the more we worry the more we have to worry about. Negative thoughts breed negative thoughts. The Lord is greater than all of our enemies but who or what is our enemy? Our enemy is that which afflicts us, injures us or in any way works against us. It may be someone who is out to get us or it may be circumstances in our lives. It may be our physical pain and suffering, sickness or even an accident. It may be the loss of someone we love or the end of a relationship that has become our enemy. It may be financial problems or the loss of a job.
But you say, these are real, they are not imagined. Yes, they are real and the pain we feel is real. Yet, with each of these, the suffering grows with the amount of time we concentrate on it. The more we can, by faith, turn these over to God the more we can find relief. He has not promised to heal us of every disease or take away our problems. He has promised to give us the strength to face them and help us thru them. Worry and complaining will only make them worse. We can allow our enemies to destroy us by taking away our peace of mind, our happiness and even our ability to get along with those around us. Or, we can turn the battle over to God and trust him to take care of us. Paul tells us that in weakness we are made strong because we learn to trust God and see his deliverance. He has never forsaken his own.
O Lord, I praise your wonderful name above all the earth. I know that in every trial of life you are with me. I thank you that you give me strength to face my enemy and trust you for the victory. Help me to keep my mind set on things above and to dwell on that which is pure, lovely, right and worthy of praise. Please fill me with your joy and peace. I pray in Jesus name.
May God bless each of us as we trust him more each day.
