10 to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt His love endures forever.
11 and brought Israel out from among them His love endures forever.
12 with a mighty hand and outstretched arm; His love endures forever.
13 to him who divided the Red Sea asunder His love endures forever.
14 and brought Israel through the midst of it, His love endures forever.
15 but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea; His love endures forever.
Did you ever get distracted by something (or someone) and forget something (or someone) else? It may be that we considered that which is forgotten to be important, maybe even more important than that which distracted us, yet we completely forgot. It may be minutes, days, weeks, or maybe not until reminded by another before we remember that which at one time we considered to be so important. God does not do this. When God makes a promise, he remembers. When he sees a need he does not get distracted and forget to take care of it. When he has a plan he does not get sidetracked and forget to follow thru. When God appeared to Moses at the burning bush he told him that he had heard the cries of the people of Israel and remembered his promises. Actually God had heard them all along. God had seen their plight as mistreated and abused slaves. God had known their afflictions. He had not been ignoring it and he had not forgotten his promises to their forefathers. He had been working his plan, according to his time table and he had been carefully getting it ready. Now the time had arrived and Moses and his Hebrew brethren began to see God at work. Just because we do not see God working in our lives does not mean that he has ignored us or forgotten us. It means we do not see him or his working. His love endures forever. When he did begin to show himself thru the plagues brought upon Egypt, there was no question that God was there. His plan meticulously unfolded one step at a time until Pharaoh demanded that God’s people leave the land of Egypt in total freedom, with no strings attached. Against all odds (as seen by man) God carried out his plan for his people. God is still at work today.
O God who loves me and remembers me, I know that your love endures forever. I also know that in my human frailty I too often fail to see you at work in my life. I ask for greater faith so that my eyes can be opened to see you each day. When I cannot see you, help me to feel your presence, always near. May I never doubt your love for me. Help me to show my realization of your love by loving others around me. Fill me with your Spirit that I may become more like you today. I come to you in the name of Jesus.
May God bless each of us as we know the presence of God today.
