1 I lift up my eyes to the hills--where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip--he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The LORD watches over you--the LORD is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The LORD will keep you from all harm--he will
watch over your life; 8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Did you ever need help and not have anyone to help? It may be something minor but it is distressing. On the other hand, when we need help and there is a friend close by who willingly and lovingly pitches in and helps, we are so grateful to them. (A side note for each of us is that we need to take time to help one another. Of course this takes time which has become one of our most valuable commodities.) This value makes it even more wonderful when we take time to help someone. It may be fixing a toy for a child. It may be listening to their story (real or imagined) or helping them watch a bug. It may be spending some time to visit a lonely elderly person. It may be someone who has been sick or who is shut in.) God is our helper. When we are lonely, he is always there to listen to us. When we are distressed he is there to cheer us. When we are bubbling with excitement, he is there to listen and share our joy.
But not only does he listen to us, he can (and will) do something about our situation. Remember, he is in control of our lives and our world. Since we do not see him in a visible form, we sometimes forget that he is here with us. Since we often do not see his working in our lives we despair and think we have to take things into our own hands. Yet, it is from these very times that our faith can become the strongest. We, like the Psalmist, must turn to God in absolute trust and talk to him. We must turn our problems, our cares, our feelings over to him and know that he will supply our needs. As we face the battles of life and see only our enemies surrounding us, we can look to the hills and know that our help is there. God does not sleep or get distracted or forget about us. He is our shade in the heat of life. He is ever present and our constant help. Praise his Holy Name!
O Lord God, please increase my faith that I might be able to turn to you in absolute trust for my every need. I get distressed and worry about things that I cannot control. Please forgive my lack of faith. I know that you are with me and will use everything in my life for my good. Open my eyes Lord that I might see you and your working in my life. Please help me to share some of my time today to help someone around me. In Jesus name I pray.
May God bless us as we trust him more fully.
