Righteous are you, O LORD, and your laws are right. 138 The statutes you have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy. 139 My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore your words. 140 Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them. 141 Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts. 142 Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true. 143 Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands are my delight. 144 Your statutes are forever right; give me understanding that I may live.
Most of us want products to be tested before we purchase them. This is especially true if it is a very costly item or even more so if it is medication. We would never purchase a medication (or even try it for free) if we knew that it had never been tested. We are asked to trust people that have never been tested. Some prove to be worthy of our trust and some do not. But would you trust a doctor to do surgery on you if you knew that he had never even passed a medical exam. You would ask how he could call himself a doctor if he had never passed the exam. Yet many trust gods who have never been tested or who have failed the test. We trust our own wisdom and it fails us. We trust greed and it never passes the test. Many trust their horoscopes and yet the stars fail the test of being God. The
same is true with physical possessions, pleasure, work, sports, entertainment, etc and the list goes on. The Psalmist knew that God could be trusted. What test had God passed? When a youth, as a shepherd, he was delivered from the bear and the lion. Later he slew the warrior giant, Goliath, with a small sling. He escaped the tirades of King Saul and his many man hunts. He found comfort when his new baby died, when his family turned against him and when his friends left him. Whether in a pasture, in a cave or in a palace, he knew God could be trusted. In fact, the more he trusted God, the more he was able to see God passing the test. I am not suggesting that we put God to the test for that purpose. What I am suggesting is that God is working mightily in our lives every day and if we will stop and look, we can see that he has already passed the test. It may not fit our agenda or our time table but God is in absolute control and will guide us, provide for us and always be present for us.
O God, thank you for your constant and abiding presence in my life. Help me to open my eyes and see your hand. I thank you for taking care of my needs and ask that you help me to give you the glory rather than complain about my problems. Open my heart and fill me with your Spirit so that I may be more like you. Please increase my faith that I may give you my burdens and leave them with you. I pray in the name of Jesus, my savior and friend.
May God bless each of us as we trust him more and live for him.
