Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. 130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. 131 I open my mouth and pant, longing for your commands. 132 Turn to me and have mercy on me, as you always do to those who love your name. 133 Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. 134 Redeem me from the oppression of men, that I may obey your precepts. 135 Make your face shine upon your servant and teach me your decrees. 136 Streams of tears flow from my eyes, for your law is not obeyed.
The statutes of the Lord are wonderful because he is wonderful. They are wonderful because they contain for us the way of life that gives true happiness and peace. They are good for us because they teach us how to have better family relationships. They are good for us because they teach us to be better citizens. This list could go on and on but I hope you get the point. God made us and he alone knows what is best for us. When we consider carefully, most of our problems exists or are magnified because we don’t really listen to and follow the statutes of the Lord. Now, if we are truly convinced that God’s word is so wonderful, why do we not revel in the opportunities to study it more? Why is it a chore or even something we would put off till later if it is so wonderful? We make time for our favorite TV shows or sport or 100 other activities each day. Do we make time for God and for studying his word?
Did you ever go to the doctor for an ailment, get the prescription, not take it and then wonder why it did not do any good? We go to God and ask for peace in our lives. We long for happiness and ask God why it does not come to us. We long for that loving relationship and closeness with him that is a constant comfort and solace from the troubles of this life, yet we do not feel it. God has not changed or moved. His will for us has not changed. He is ever present and available to each of us. In fact he is waiting with open arms for us to come to him. Jesus said we who are weary and heavily burdened can come to him and he will give us rest.
Lord God, please help me to get my priori ties right. Help me to trust you enough to really put you first in my life today. Give me strength to do what I know I need to do and faith enough to know that I will actually enjoy doing your will. I know that you know what is best for me so please forgive my doubt. Help me to show someone today just how wonderful your statutes are when I live by them. Fill me with your presence that others will see you in me and your name will be glorified. I pray in Jesus name.
May God bless each of us as we live for him today.
