I have done what is righteous and just; do not leave me to my oppressors. 122 Ensure your servant's well-being; let not the arrogant oppress me. 123 My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise. 124 Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees. 125 I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes. 126 It is time for you to act, O LORD; your law is being broken. 127 Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold, 128 and because I consider all your precepts right, I hate every wrong path.
Do you ever wish you could better understand the Bible? Do you ever wish you could just better apply what you have learned but are not sure how to do that? The key to both of these is found in verse 125. The first step is to recognize that we are God’s servant. That means that we accept Jesus as our Lord, as our Master and we humbly submit to His will for us. When w e do this we do not argue with what He says. We do not try to find excuses for not doing it or ways to get around it. Have you ever said (either out loud or to yourself), “I know what the Bible says but I think” or “I want” or “it seems to me” or something similar to this? Remember, we are being honest. The fact is that most of us do not like the idea of servitude. We want to be our own boss and determine our own destiny. We want to die singing “I did it my way”. Rather, we live while singing the old hymn “Have Thine own way, Lord. Thou art the potter, I am the clay. Mold me and make me after thy will, while I am waiting, yielded and still”. Jesus said if we want to be great we must become servants.
The next step is to pray for wisdom. God wants us to understand how to apply His will. He does not want us to wander in the dark and His word is a light to our path. James tells us that when we pray for wisdom God will give it to us generously and joyfully. He also tells us how to see if we are using that wisdom by describing it for us. The wisdom from above is first pure, peaceable, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere (Jas. 4:17). It sounds like the fruit of the Spirit to me.
O God, please help me to submit to You, to Your will and to Your way. Please give me wisdom to better understand how to apply what I learn from You. I know that I fail You so many times and so I ask that You please continue to forgive me thru the blood of Jesus. Please help me to see when I sin and to admit it and then turn from it. Help me to see when I am doing right so that I can give You the glory for changing me and I can be encouraged to do even better. I thank You for all things in the name of Jesus.
May God bless each of us as we humbly submit to his will for us.
