Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. 106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. 107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word. 108 Accept, O LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. 109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. 110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. 111 Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. 112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.
When one accepts a public office there is a swearing in ceremony. That person takes an oath to uphold the duties and responsibilities of the office they will hold. They thus are held accountable for the way they conduct themselves in regard to the office. The Psalmist states that he has taken an oath and confirmed it to follow the righteous laws of God. When one becomes a Christian, that person does not have a swearing in ceremony but the practical effect should be the same. Paul told Timothy to be true to the good confession he had made. If we are a Christian, we have made the good confession of our faith. We state that we believe in and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord, our Master and our Savior. We are making a covenant to serve him and live for him. By being baptized into Christ, have we not also confirmed the oath of our confession? We will therefore be held accountable for the way we administer our duties to him. Yet, too many feel that being a Christian and serving God are things they do when the feel like it or when it is convenient. To accept Christ into our hearts and our lives is to be a life changing experience that thereafter alters, guides and directs every step of our way. When I married my wife it changed everything about my life, and rightly so. I was no longer single but had then entered into a relationship that requires every part of my being, every day of my life. I now belong to her and she belongs to me; we are a part of each other. It changed my relationship with others and even the way I view myself. So it is when we become a Christian. We now belong to Christ and he belongs to us. We have taken an oath to serve him with our entire being. Have we kept this oath?
Dear God, please help me to be faithful to the oath I have made to you in Jesus Christ. Help me to live for you and serve you by becoming more like you in my disposition and serving others around me. Please fill me with your Spirit that his fruit may overflow in my life. I also pray that you will be with the leaders of our country that they would lead this nation closer to you and to your will. Forgive our sinful ways. In Jesus name I pray.
May God bless each of us as we live for him.
