This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."
While there are some of you who get this that do not consider Christmas as the birthday of Christ there are others who feel that it is. Historically it probably is not. While there is no teaching in the Bible that tells us to celebrate the birthday of Jesus many feel we should. In Romans 14 Paul says that if some feel that a special day should be celebrated and another does not they both should act according to their individual conscience but not look at the other with contempt. If you feel you should celebrate Christmas then do so to God but if you feel you should not then don’t but don’t look badly at those who feel they should.
The fact is that Jesus came to earth and was born as a baby. This was God’s plan to fulfill the many prophecies from the Old Testament. The angels told Joseph and the shepherds that Jesus came to save His people from their sins. It seems to me that it is always appropriate to celebrate the coming of Jesus as our savior. I see Christmas as a pleasant reminder all around me that God loves me enough that He gave His Son to die for me. Not only did He die for me but lived as a man so that He could understand my problems and trials and now ever lives for me as an intercessor before the Father. Praise be to God who loves me enough that He sent His Son.
Dear God, I thank you for sending Jesus to this earth. I thank you for the life that He lived, the death He died and His resurrection that I may have eternal life. Help me to not get so caught up in the material things that I forget that this life is about serving you and living for you. Help me to see good in every reminder of your love for me. In Jesus name I pray.
May God bless each of us as we live for Him.
