Hebrews 3:1-6
1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession. 2 He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house. 3 For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house. 4 For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. 5 Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; 6 but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.
As I was reading in Hebrews 2 and 3 there were so many thoughts I wanted to share with each of you but for sake of space I have chosen these few verses. If you have time, read all of these 2 chapters – and more. You will be impressed with Jesus as our Lord, as our Savior, as our sacrifice, as our law giver, as the source of our covenant with God, as our High Priest but in this context as our brother. He became one of us, flesh and blood. He suffered all the things we have to face. He was tempted just like we are tempted. And yet, He did this without ever failing in His resolve to do the will of the Father, He lived His life without sin and then gave that life for you and me because of our sin. Praise God for His marvelous love, His mercy, His grace and His wisdom in providing such a savior for each of us!
Moses was faithful to God. He made some mistakes but lived a life of commitment to God and in the face of many trials he remained true to that commitment. But Moses was just a servant in the house. Jesus was totally faithful to the Father (without any mistakes) as a Son and yet humbled Himself to die for each of us.
As Christians today, we are partakers of a heavenly calling. Through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice we have been chosen by God to be His special children. In the context of these chapters we are therefore encouraged to be faithful to God in our commitment, but we can have help when we fail. Jesus has suffered what we suffer and been tempted like we are tempted, so He knows what we are facing each day. He, by His resurrection, has rendered the devil powerless and thus overcome all evil (not just for himself, but for us).
Not only are we partakers of the heavenly calling but we are described as the house of God. It is in this house that the Spirit of God dwells. This house is God’s place of refuge and safety. This house is where we receive His encouragement and support. It is where we can seek shelter from the storms of life. And so the writer says, in view of all this, let us hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope. You see, it is not just for eternity that God wants to provide salvation for us, but He wants to hold our hand and help us each day of our lives. Hallelujah, What a Savior!
Dear God, I thank you for your love, for your mercy toward me, for your grace extended to me through your Son, Jesus. Thank you for his life, for his death on my behalf and for his resurrection that gives me hope. Help me to be faithful in my commitment to you. Help me to know the confidence you provide through my brother, Jesus. Help me to ever live my life in the hope you gave given me. It is in the name of my High Priest, my savior, my Lord and my brother, Jesus, that I offer this prayer to you.
May God bless each of us as we live for him today.
