20 But you have an anointing from the Holy one, and all of you know the truth. 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist-he denies the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also. 24 See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us-even eternal life.
If you are in Jesus today, you have the promise of eternal life. Notice this is not a maybe, a wish or could be – this is a promise from God! We all know the passage in John 14:2 where Jesus said he was going to prepare a mansion for his own. Ever realize it is not just a mansion but a city of mansions beyond our imagination. In fact the writer of Hebrews describes it as a country that is prepared for us and then a city that is prepared for us.
Hebrews 11:13-16:
13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. 14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 Instead, they were longing for a better country-a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
Interestingly this section of scripture is followed with the exhortation for us to follow these examples of faith by fixing our eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:1-2). Let us never lose sight of Jesus, of Heaven, of the country, of the city and the mansion that he is preparing for us. An old black brother, Marshall Keeble, once put it like this: “I sure ain’t gonna miss any mansion that took Jesus 2000 years to build.”
May God bless you as you keep your eyes on Jesus.
